Before Medicine - An Excerpt from the Original Draft of Frozen Acid

[Broken Reality - Canon - K]

“Shion! Come on!” A girl with mouse brown hair and gray eyes waves from on top of a grassy hill, she's leaning partially on a rusting metallic railing that helps people over see the beautiful view from the top. “Hurry up! Miss Hinata is already passing out blankets!” A boy with bright brown eyes looks over from where he had been staring at the clouds, watching them float over them with a peaceful look.

He smiles up at her, its gentle with a touch of shyness, “Coming, Yuuki.” And, with that, he begins the trek up with a small wagon full of cloth stuffed animals and tiny baby dolls. It takes Shion a minute to reach her and her expression is one of mock annoyance when he does so. He gives her a sheepish smile and small, nervous laugh. “Uh. s-Sorry. I, uh, I lost track of what was going on.”

Yuuki rolls her eyes. “Shiiiioooon.” Her voice comes out in a long wine before it takes upon a scolding tone. “If you don't keep your head out of the clouds you will never be able to make it back into the Gifted Program... I mean. We've filed for your reconsideration just last week and you're still being a total space case?” She huffs at him as his sheepish smile melts into a shy one.

“ye-Yeah. S-sorry about that... But. Uh... It takes time, Yuuki,” He shakes his brown hair from his apologetic and worried eyes as the two begin the short walk towards their looming destination. Its a tall building, sturdy looking, and made of tough bricks just like the kids that come from it. Being one of the local religious orphanages filled with nuns and a variety of kids Ms Hinata likes to take her son and his best friend to go and volunteer there. The two end up spending much of their time either playing with the younger children or reading to them, but its the thought that is what matters.

Soon the two are stopping outside of the building, smiling at one another. Any argument they had leaving behind them. Together they lift the box filled with donated toys, leaving behind the wagon as they walk inside the easily pushed open doors, neither worrying of what will befall the wagon as they go. Inside is as spotless and wide open space as anyone would expect of a nun run orphanage. The two always find themselves slightly intimidated by the size, especially when they were young. But, then, a woman with a kind smile walks up to them.

“Mr. Hinata, Miss Naoko,” She addresses them formally and with a gentle voice. “Ms. Hinata is on the second floor. Please. Feel free to join her.” The two nod and each give her a bow.

“Thank you, Sister.”  The two stand up straight with bright smiles. With that they take off at a brisk walk through the building. Its warm and cheery looking, although the two do know its also a strict environment to grow up in. They have a friend whom lives here, they wonder if they'll run into him this time. Although its unlikely, he seems to always be busy whenever they come to visit. Regardless, as soon as they reach the top of the stairs, a flock of kids rush at them.

“Shion!”

“Yuuki, Yuuki!”

Little voices and waving hands call out to them. The two exchange a glance before smiling to each other. Together, side by side, they approach the children. Each of them ready for a long day of play and each of them bearing gifts in their arms as tokens of care.
